My Rating: 4.7
Amazon Rating: 4.8
Ya'll, I was hesitant about this book. But, I needed a new novel for our trip to Cayman, so I went with this recent release from Reese's Book Club.
However, I wasn't all that thrilled about starting it. I brought it out to the sand one day during our vacation, but only got a few pages in, because #sandcastles, but also because I didn't have any urge to dive in. Then, on our flights back home, I found myself without a phone (Parker loves to play games on the plane since it's one of the only times we let him) and reluctantly, I started reading as it was my only option for entertainment. And y'all. You need this book! It's so different from anything I've read before, yet has that Gone Girl style mystery + jumping back and forth in time thing that I love. The description of "Marsh Girl" in the Amazon synopsis doesn't do her justice - she will be endearing and you will root for her:

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.
Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

If the Amazon synopsis didn't do it for you (remember, I was just "eh" about starting the book), just trust me - give this book a try!
