Friday Favorites

Five February Friday Favorites...
1.

It's been what's called unseasonably warm this week, also known as phenomenally gorgeous weather. True to their name as an outdoor school, Parker's class spent the entirety of their time yesterday outside (even their Spanish lesson!). We followed up with popsicles at the town centre, and playtime in the backyard (I snuck in some food magazine reading as well). Today's high is seventy-seven degrees, and I am 99% certain there is a picnic of some sort in our near future. We're eating up every bit of this unseasonable weather! (Though kind of freaking out about what it will be like when it's unseasonably warm in July. Eeeks.)

We picked up some tulips... because let's be real, it already feels like spring here.

2.

I was stoked to get these new skincare products in the mail. It's always fun trying new things, and probiotics for your face seems pretty cutting edge to me. The cream is super thick, which is lovely in these dry winter months, and I'll report back after a week or so of use with more thoughts!

3.

Remember how I said Parker and I delivered Valentine cookies to our neighbors last week? Almost all of them sent handwritten thank-you notes to Parker in the mail this week :) Southern Manners at their best!

With our phenomenal temperatures this week, I was inspired to do a bit of gorgeous-weather shopping :) I couldn't decide which chambray shirt I preferred, this one:

Or this one:

So I ordered both ;) Also, would you believe I don't own a pair of white jeans? They just scream spring to me so I reasoned this was the year to add them to my closet. I already own regular jeans in the same style, so I figured I'd love these ones as well:

I stopped myself before adding these guys to my online cart, but I'm still totally eyeing them.

P.S. If you are not using Ebates when doing your online shopping, you are missing out on getting cash back for your purchases! Click below to sign up if you haven't already. After finishing (and liking) The Woman in Cabin 10, I picked up Ruth Ware's first book, In a Dark, Dark Wood. Apparently way back in 2015, Reese Witherspoon announced she was doing a film adaptation of the book, but I must have completely missed this at the time (also, I can't finish anything recent on the subject so I hope it's still true).

The book is definitely in the style of Gone Girl, and I really enjoyed it, though it's not to the same caliber (in my opinion) as a Gillian Flynn book. The crazy character in In a Dark, Dark Wood (don't worry, I won't give away which person it ends up being) isn't as well fleshed out as the the one in Gone Girl (and I really hold that book as the bar). The book didn't come together at the end as best as it could have (the motives seemed a bit stretched, which I could also say about The Woman in Cabin 10) however, I'd still recommend both Ruth Ware books if you're looking for interesting, page-turner thrillers :)

Happy Almost-Weekend, Y'all!

Life Lately

Life lately has been a tale of two Alabamas. There's the normal February Alabama (chilly with a side of cold)...

And that side of cold refers to food, obviously, because we're crazy and love smoothies, sushi, and ice cream on forty degree days...

And there's the "let's pretend it's already spring" Alabama...

Short sleeves, sunshine, and daffodils... this can't be February?

Oh, but it is.

I'm used to southern weather varying widely and swinging to extremes, but it's really been on another level lately! But walks to the park in February? I'll take it.

Tennis down the street? Check!

Our little family discovered a local brewery that is connected to a wood fired pizza place...

And they also serve homemade ice cream... this is one of the "adult" flavors, Bourbon Butter Pecan. Pizza, local beer, and homemade ice cream? Yes, just yes.

I love a family walk... especially when it leads to a taco shop!

And picnic brunching in February? This might be my favorite of all.

I'm new to the Chick-fil-A breakfast, and it's both a blessing and a curse. Y'all - the chicken biscuits are heaven. My sweet Mama knows the way to our hearts! Gift cards and drive-thru Chick-fil-A = all the feels.

I feel so lucky to share my days with this little guy.

I mean, look at that smile!

He has my heart.

Life lately has taken me here - because when your Pilates studio is this darling, how can you not go?

I've also been sneaking in some Girls Nights...

And coffee. All. the. coffee.

I can't lie - life lately has been just wonderful :)

Valentine-ing 2017

I couldn't let February slip by without sharing a bit about our Valentine's Day!

Some people make Christmas cookies. We make Valentine cookies :)

This little guy insisted on orange icing for his. #favoritecolor #allthingsorange

P.S. Going shopping at Target for cookie supplies is almost as much fun as making the cookies! (Find my recipe here.)

We wrapped up some cookie singles as well as a few filled mason jars to deliver to neighbors on actual Valentine's Day. I'm telling you - some people are all about Christmas treats, but Valentine's sweets are where it's at ;)

I mean, add some pink and heart shapes to anything and the cuteness goes through the roof.

The morning of the 14th, Parker woke up to heart balloons... lots of heart balloons.

We had gone to Whole Foods the day before to pick out roses to give to his teachers, and sweet guy insisted on orange, obviously.

Whole Foods had the same deal going as last year - twenty-four roses for $24. In Valentine's prices, that's a steal (and hands-down the best price I found anywhere). I broke down the bunch and wrapped up bundles in craft paper for his teachers as well as the office staff. Parker was so excited to give them out!

He also had these sweet valentines to hand out to his classmates!

While P was at school, I spent my morning at Pilates. Since Parker was bringing roses to his teachers, I figured I'd give a couple to my instructor! She was too sweet to post this on Facebook :)

Parker came home with his stash of Valentines from school (a first for him) and had fun going through them while munching on a Valentine cookie.

And I love displaying the ones we get in the mail (I save years' past and put them in the pink tub, but it's getting pretty full).

While Parker napped, I put the finishing touches on husby's valentine, a basket of fun brews.

We stayed in and had a fondue dinner that night - just me and my loves! The picture below was taken about ten seconds before Parker knocked over his champagne flute of milk (good thing he got the plastic and not the crystal).

Hoping your Valentine's Day was just as sweet!
